About

I'm an artist whose medium is textile, paint, and stitch.

Various themes and imagery run throughout my work, primarily illustrative: figures from fairy and folktales, beings from my childhood fancies, the flora and fauna of the Canadian Shield and the dense foliage that provides the landscape for those creatures to flourish in.

Occasionally, I veer away from these pursuits to pursue a better understanding of how I feel about the world around us. These make up the pieces in the "Whitewashed" series; which seeks to promote equality and social justice.  These are created in maelstrom of emotion: passion, sadness, outrage, fear and often, anger - springing to life with little conscious direction.  As E.M. Forster said: "How will I know what I think until I see what I say?"

All of my work is informed by my childhood.  A transracial adoptee to abusive parents, I struggled with being an "other" in every aspect of my world.  My refuge, peace, and much joy was found in the forests and lakes of Northern Ontario, in the company of my beloved dog and cat and the imaginary beings who accompanied me in my travels there.

It is my hope that my work will draw in the viewer and transmit something of my intent to them -  whether pleasure or happiness, remembrance or discomfort  – if  my work ignites a response, I hope it will remind viewers of something that matters to them.

Please have a look at my gallery, see where I'll exhibiting next on the "About" page of my blog, or send me an email at kit.lang.ltd@gmail.com and have a chat.
