Monday, huh?

I know you're all waiting to hear about that giveaway, and I swear I'm almost done the quilt - however, BOTH of my sewing machines broke this week and I am waiting for a fix before I can continue.  Giveaway's coming soon, I promise!

In the meantime,  I'm participating in Bumble Beans "House Block Gather" and a couple of weeks ago, I made a couple of blocks for that to send along to her:

Although I designed the whole block on the chimmney fabric, I now wish I'd picked something else for the chimney! (Isn't that just the way, sometimes.)

And here's the "bright" one.

BSP came in just as I was ironing this latter one, and said "What's THAT" in a not-very-flattering tone. I explained that it was a house block and what it was for. BSP did NOT approve and said "Just don't make us a quilt like that, okay?" to which I responded:

"RUDE. "

I should make one anyway - don't you think?

Wednesday WIP

this is another glimpse of my secret project - my next challenge quilt for 3Creative Studios.  I've completed not only my research and the background of my quilt; and am now working on the right hand section of the quilt.

As you can see, I've taken some gold mesh fabric which I layered over the crazy quilt pieces, and then roughly frayed it with a scissor.  The next step in this embellishing process?

Stay tuned...

WIP Wednesday

So, the day before yesterday, I happened to notice my follower count, and it's at 98.  You may (or may not) remember that some months ago, I said that when I reached 100 followers, I would have a giveaway.  So when I saw "98" I said to BSP "Eep! I have 98 followers!  I have to make something for my giveaway!"

I had decided several months ago, that when I did this give away, I would do a "pay it forward" kind of giveaway, because several months ago, I won enough fabric and a pattern to make a lap sized quilt top from Green Fairy Quilts.  When it arrived, I decided that I would use the fabric in my own pattern, and then do a giveaway of the quilt and the pattern to one of my followers.

Of course, I had to add something shiny to it (because that's just the way I am) so the majority of the quilt is going to be this raspberry silk that I purchased a couple of years ago.  I can't remember what kind of silk it is, but it has a really interesting texture - and I like the juxtaposition of it against the cottons.

At the moment, I'm just experimenting with bits of the various fabrics until I decide what this quilt is going to look like  - the cotton fabrics and the colour pallette are quite a departure for me, so I decided that playing with it would inspire me more than staring at them.  *laugh*

So, at the moment, I'm not sure what this will grow up to be, but whatever it is, sometime soon, it might come to you!

In the meantime, happy quilting!

It's not a finished quilt, but it is a finish!  This weekend, instead of working on my quilt(s), I decided to re-organize my sewing room. It looked like a bomb had gone off in there, and I wasn't enjoying the set up.  After re-folding my stash (so it doesn't get fold lines), re-organizing my bins and bins and bins (!) of scraps; I was finally ready to sew.

BSP requested a new pair of pajamas (and since BSP unfailing not only gives me whatever I want but often anticipates my wants) I couldn't deny such a small request. And then I thought it would be fun (and cute) to make myself a nightie out of the same fabric. I didn't let the fact that I didn't have a pattern for a nightgown deter me, I just went for it; and I made a very pretty nightgown. So pretty in fact, that BSP and I decided that I should save it, and wear it as a summer dress instead.

(I love the handles on this bag.  Not evident from the picture, is that they're incredibly sturdy.  The pink satin strip was four inches wide, which I fused to interfacing, and then folded so that the outsides met in the middle, and then folded in half.  Those handles are fantastically sturdy now!)

After all that, I knew I wouldn't have time to finish a quilt. However, I decided I did have time to make a tote bag while watching the Oscars. And so I did, and I called it "Oscar".

The bag is made entirely of scraps.

I really like the stacked coins in the middle and may use this again!

Oscar is 16 x 14 and 4 inches wide.

Wednesday WIP

This week, it's all about research...

Because sometimes, you have to read and study the oddest things before you can make a quilt...

*le sigh*

If I quilt fast enough, does it count as aerobics?

I'm still working on my magnum opus, but I'm not done yet.  I'll show you the same sneek peak I showed when I first began working on the quilt because I'm not willing to show you anymore!

But watch this space!

P.S.  Yay Canada!
