Firestarter...

I was up to all kinds of fun this weekend - on Saturday, I was in my sewing room, dyeing, painting, quilting, experimenting - it was an extremely productive day!

And yeah - I set something on fire.  :)

But what was it?

Well, I started out with some roving in three different shades of gray and a mustard-y yellow.

Which I laid out on a piece of stabilizer in a manner pleasing only to myself (okay, perhaps a few others as well.)

And then I lightly needled felted it and, because I wanted a rough, shadowed edge, I set it on fire. (Or maybe I just wanted to set something on fire. *hee*)

After that, I laid a gossamer-thin ribbon in an 7 inch wide width (before I found these at the dollar store I didn't even know such things existed.  But since they were from the dollar store, I bought them in every colour available figuring I'd find a use for them some day!)

And then I very lightly needle felted the ribbon to my new substrate.

I wasn't sure whether that was quite the effect that I was looking for so I pulled a piece of light gray scrim from my stash:

And needle felted that to another version of the substrate made the same way.

But what are they?  Any guesses?  All shall be revealed later this week...
