Zen Garden

My sewing machine and I were reunited and immediately commenced to work together on our latest project.  She ran satisfyingly smoothly and well, and Zen Garden was finished in no time!]

That gorgeous Japanese silk fabric used on the back and on the squaures made me think of all things Japaense,

so both the quilt as well as the quilting were inspired by those serene sand gardens with their islands of stone, the quilting reminscient of the waves lovingly drawn in the sand.

Because I love the fabric so much, I just have to show you the back:

Because the silk was so delicate (like sari veils); I had to first fuse it to a stablizer.  I was afraid it would change the consistency too much it turned out just fine.  I used a bright fuschia satin for the binding that perfectly complemented the pink and yellow flowers in the silk as well as providing a bright contrast to the grey-y green tweed pattern cotton.

And the finished product:

Up next, a WIP.

But which WIP, Kit?

I'm not sure which one it will be (there are so many to choose from!) but I think I have to get back to my discipline of completing a WIP before beginning a new project.  The WIPS are taking over my sewing room! And one by one, I'll finish them all.

See you Friday!

I know exactly what you mean about taking decent pictures at this time of year. Grey days aren't great for photography!

  9. So, you say you put stabilizer on the silk? what weight? it turned out lovely. How heavy was it. I am always tempted by the silk ,but tend away from it. what are you words of wisdom?
