But back to our current tale...there's not much to say, except that what you're looking at right there are hundreds of sequins and about 30 hours of hand beading - I'm sure someone else would be faster at it, but it took me quite awhile to figure out a: how to do it and b: how to do it in a way that worked!
These are the beads that auditioned for the piece,
And these are the ones I used.
Originally I was going to hand-cut her scales and sew them down, and then I had this "brilliant" idea that it would somehow be faster to make her scales beads. I laugh, laugh at myself.
That said, I do like the effect.
And this is the drawing that I started out with.
Also, remember this:
that I did just about a year ago? I did it AGAIN while I was quilting the background -hence the switch to beading the mermaid.
Only this time, it was a 70/10 rather than a 14/90, and it was just at the tip; so no hospital visit was necessary - after a short, intense argument I managed to convince BSP to pull it out with a pair of pliers (this time, is was just straight in rather than curved through) and I've had no ill effects. Be careful out there! ;)
See you on Monday with some rocks - and maybe the finished piece!
Ouch! Glad it wasn't so bad this time, but I'm still cringing. The beading is amazing, Kit! Wow, that's going to look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteSeeing your finger with that needle going through it gives me goosebumps !!! But your mermaid is a fine young lady in the making, so to say ;-)) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat mermaid's tale is stunning.
ReplyDeleteYou do know that mermaids are not real though don't you...(referring to something that was on the news this morning!)
Been there, done that. Hubby was less than impressed. lol But I'm impressed with this classy mermaid!
ReplyDeleteHAve done it with a twin needle---gag.
ReplyDeleteThe mermaid is quite sumptuous!
I love this shimmery sparkly stuff. You know, she would look really good on the bit I've been playing with.... just sayin'! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOwwwwwwww.......guess your getting better at impaling yourself, sort of.............? lol
ReplyDeleteThats a wonderful, richly textured tail!!
Oh!! Ouch!! I've only done that once, but wow, the pain is incredible! Yikes! The mermaid is so lovely! Have you ever seen the batik artist Harriet Peck Taylor's work? She has illustrated books that she writes with her batik art. They're just amazing!! Here's her website! http://www.harrietpecktaylor.com/ That would be so cool if you made/wrote some books! I could totally see that!!
ReplyDeleteEeek - who ever said no gain without pain??
ReplyDeleteI like your mermaid tail and particularly how you have used different sizes and shapes - it gives the scales a dynamic look. Hilaryxx
And you say you aren't an artist!!!! Pa-Leeze!!
ReplyDeleteShe is just fabulous. You astonish me every time.
She's gorgeous. Where did you buy your supplies? Some interesting looking goodies there.
ReplyDeleteI've stabbed my fingers a few times but your pic of your finger...eeeeek!!!!
She's just lovely Kit. It sure makes you appreciate all for that lovely beaded couture doesn't it.
