Fern #2

Well there it is!

So, this little fern is finally done - I say "finally" because it was definitely a long time coming.  After I finished the first fern back in November, 2011 (which I also made using disperse dyeing)

I said I was going to make two or three more ferns,  I guess I just didn't say when.  (Details, details...)

And hey, speaking of details, in these pics you can see all of the little tiny line of quilting, and the veining in the leaves.  Although, now that it's "done"...

I am very tempted to colour in that leaf in nice, mulit-valued greens. What do you think? Yes, or leave well enough alone?

Next week, I start with a piece for a call for entry. It's a big' un! Lots of painting...

  1. I was surprised to see that the fern is white but I like it. It is something different.

  2. What I like about your white fern is the good contrast in value. If you paint it green, I would be afraid about loosing that value-contrast?

  3. leave it! the contrast and the concept are clearer, and the essence is there that is Fern

  4. It's beautiful Kit. I'm not sure I agree with the others though. I too might be tempted to paint it. Just be subtle about the colouring but I think it would look great. Having said that, it already does look great and I love your quilting so whatever you do you win!!!

  6. Beautiful stitching! Love the fern... I am not sure of the all white fern... It depends what kind of contrast you are going for. Maybe try a small leaf sample on a spare bit of cloth and play with some painting. Then you will know what you like.

  7. I love it Kit. It certainly pleases my eye. The stitching is wonderful especially.

  8. I think you could make the fern look very beautiful if you were to paint it. However I would be a bit cautious because it could easily lose it's main focus if the colors are all the same. Good luck!

  9. I love it the way it is but, you're the artist so it's really how you feel about it in your heart of hearts:)

  12. I'm in the 'leave it alone' camp -- I like the contrast with the background! Very nicely done. :-)

  13. Coloring the fern green would be soooo expected......the unexpected pale presentation is what makes this quilt extra interesting.....call it done!!

  15. I like it white too. If you did colour it green, I think I'd only do a very pale green. Why would you colour them actually? They're already ferns, no doubt about it.
