Coming along....

Well, after yesterday afternoon's excitement, I was galvanized to action in the studio last night.  Which is why there are so many feathers!

So, this is the wing as it currently stands, but do you wanna know how I got there?

First, I finished the small portion of the wing - you may recall from the wing pattern in Wednesday's post that this was a fairly well delineated portion of the wing.

But I wasn't sure how to achieve that.

My first thought was that I would cut individual fabric feather patterns and then fill them in with small feathers. I put a couple of small feathers in one larger feather and realized that that was not the way to go.

But I still needed to delineate or accent the line between each section of wing, or the whole thing would read as one blurry colour.  I decided a shift in the palette would solve the problem, so I pulled some bronzey/old goldey colours to differentiate from my existing champagne, cream and pale gold.

But in the next set of feathers, I needed to revert to original colours.

(This is what it looks like from the back.)

I'm less than a third finished, but it's coming along.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Jealous...I wish I had more time in the studio. I just can't seem to get all the stuff done that I want to do and all my hobbies suffer. Thanks for keeping me thinking of getting in there....hopefully Saturday is my studio day...hopefully. Maybe after some planting. hahaha

  3. Lovely! It reminds me of the numbers of greens in leaves or grasses...the numbers of browns/greys/blacks in tree trunks etc. You have to really see to recreate the effect of "one" colour!
