So, remember last week when I posted my crayola gel paint mandellasI said I also wanted to try them with procion dyes? Well I did. And here's how I did it.
I had some really boring results from one of my parfait dyeing colourways, because when I hung it to dry, all the colours ran and produced this:
Pretty but ::yawn:::
So I decided it would be good to use it as a background for my 'speriment.
First, I folded my square in half:
and then again and then again and then again, until
at this point, I sewed little tacks all along the long edge of the triangle and then bound it with more cotton thread.
When I was done I had some little bundles of the boring green (as well as some failed snowdyeing experiments in the bluey/purpley colourways) which I painted with dye in the same method as I did with the Crayola gel paints.
On this one, I didn't tack the side first:
And as you can see, it made a noticeable difference in how defined the starburst pattern is. Good to know! Neither turned out anything like I expected so I'll continue to experiment with these.
And I'll show you the results of the other little bundles later on.
Cià o for now!
Love your experiments - looks fun! Love dyeing and I like the fact that it's messy and unique every time:)
