Last Fall in Spring

*hee*  To follow up my WIP post on my  Finished Piece Monday, I thought I'd share a finished piece on WIP Wednesday.  *s*

This is a quilt some of you may remember I started back in 2009 - and when I was done making the top, I was sooooooo upset because I felt it was such a waste of a fabulous vintage fabric.

Although it didn't turn out as I had imagined it would, I do like it very much now.  (Time heals all wounds, as they say).  I quilted it last night in about an hour flat, because we desperately needed a "summer weight" quilt for our bedroom (which is situated on the surface of the sun, y'see. Or perhaps that's my menopausal symptoms talking.  No matter!)

Because I whipped through the quilting so quickly, there are a few puckers here and there, but I'm really okay with it.  I'm usually more of a bear about that kind of thing, but I needed it for immediate use, I was having a 'menopausal moment" and I had no patience for nicities!  (Those of you who have experienced such things, may sympathize.)

The patterned fabrics are two different fabrics - the rusty based Aztec-y fabric is the aforementioned vintage cotton, the darker brown is an upholstery weight rayon-cotton blend, the light green is cotton and the orange sashing and back are silk taffetta.

The long piece along the top is not an extra-wide binding but a cover up for scorch marks on the silk from my iron (long story).

This is an extra long queen - I usually make my queens 83 x 90, this one is 83 by 105.  I do remember that I made it that long for a specific purpose, but I'm not what that was anymore.  Possibly, I intended to fold it over the pillows on the bed.  Instead, I'm making matching shams just for fun.

Anyway - that's my chatty Wednesday morning post.  Hope you like both the quilt and the content - see you on Friday!

  4. What a neat color combination. Nothing like a quick quilt to make you feel accomplished! :D And I am jealous that your peonies are still out. Mine are done already, oh well!
