all I needed were my charcoal sticks (the bottom row in the pic above) and some pastels (top middle section).
And of course, some thread!
As I added the charocal and pastels to the piece and it revealed itself more fully to me, I thought about time. How it moves, how we think we are standing still in it, and yet it changes us without our even knowing, moving us along to a place that's new. If we resist that movement, standing firm in the place we've claimed, it will wear us down until we no longer exist.
But if we embrace it, let it take us where it will; we will all be made softer, purer with age ... and the kindness of erosion.
I like this a lot Kit. I like the subtlety and I love how you've quilted it. Wonderful first time painting.

What a calm, reflective piece, in design and sentiment. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, the piece and the words.
ReplyDeleteAll I can write is: WOW!
ReplyDeleteWow, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteKit - what sort of paints were you using and did you apply them onto wet or dry fabric (so many question!). Also what sort of fabric is it? I really like the result and can see myself using this technique. I also like the painting after quilting technique that the Kemshalls use. Have you seen it? Very satisfying.

"Erosion" is beautiful, wonderful, superklasse !! (see, I did not find the right words in English, so I switched to German ...) Will you explore these techniques further? (please don't say no ...)
ReplyDeleteCarol - the piece will be offered for sale soon, so if you would like to buy it then, please do so!
ReplyDeleteReally lovely!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I would never have known it was your first time trying the technique.
