I'll Fly Away

The wing is done. :) Yay!  At 14.5 inches across its widest part and 11 inches tall - it's the biggest wing I have ever made, but was just as fussy as the little ones.

The feathers in this little curlicue were just as tiny as any feather I have made so far...

But they got bigger as I went out.

Originally, I was going to add some hand stitched detail to these feathers in the form of veining, but after I'd done few, it turned out it was detracting, rather than enhancing the feathers, so I took it out and smooooooootheeed the little holes left behind.

I'll outline them when I sew them to the quilted background, but for now, the wing is done.

Up next, the hard parts!

  1. I don't know what your plans are for this or how big it is but being so perfect an object in this image, I'd be afraid to go another step. Be brave. It's grand.
