Up next...

Now that the rush for the shows are over, I can think about what I actually *want* to make, in what little time I have. My inclination is to rush in and start making - but that's never a good idea (lol) and also, make what?

I have two new series I want to start, I want to continue work on the Whitewashed series, I want to make some more birds for Taking Flight, and maybe start a butterfly series in the same size; I have two challenge pieces for Group of Eight to make, a piece to start and construct in secret for hopeful entry into next year's Quilt National (they do the entries a year in advance, right? Or is it some other big show that's biannual that I'm thinking of? Anyway - the super secret piece for *that* show lol); I want to continue work on my abstract studies, and when, exactly, am I going to start that children's book?

Er, what was I talking about again? lol

So, given all that, I think it's best if I take a moment and just have a play, breathe, think about where my heart wants to go. So, I pulled out a disperse dye piece that I made last year (my method here) and decided to finish it.

It was a weird shape because this was during the experimentation stage with my disperse dyes - I just grabbed some papers and cut them out in tree, leaf and rock shapes and slapped them on a scrap of satin to see if it would work - but when it was done it seemed a shame to just toss it.

And now that I'm actually working on it, I decided to just go with the shape, after first trimming it up. If I don't like the shape when it's done, I can just trim it into a long, thin rectangle.

So, I quilted it. There was a time when having fully quilted it, I would call it done.  But, now's a different time and quiltling is only a part of the background pieces for my work. So, more to come on Wednesday!

And though I rarely show the back of pieces as it's a pet peeve of mine (after all, when one looks at a painting or a photograph, does the viewer turn it over to see what the back looks like?!?); but this one looked so neat, I decided to share.

See you Wednesday - hope you had a great weekend! Mine was lovely. :)

  1. You certainly have a busy schedule ahead. Thanks for showing the back as it's much easier to see the quilting design this way. Good luck with your Quilt National entry.

  4. Ive learnt that its well worth peeking at the backs of things if you can do so unobtrusively. And yours is very tidy indeed lol mind you the front is a delight too!
I have a lithograph of a pit disaster, printed in the 19th century and it was printed on wallpaper of the day!
It was printed to raise funds for the grieving families of the 208 who died that day.
The Hartley Pit Disaster, from which came the legal need to have two shafts for miners to escape there after.
I also have a commemorative WW1 picture of my grandfathers army service which was printed and hand paint embellished on cardstock, that had served as printed jigsaw box lids! It has a Spanish looking female in costume, though 'she' was almost certainly a male model, masquerading as a female for the artist!
A lot of that went on back then and why not! lol
