So, I hadn’t quite yet decided whether I wanted to stitch the pattern on my skull by hand or by machine.
I did a machine outline in the colours I wanted to use (as you can see above), but once I had done that, my  decision was made. Hand-stitched it was! So...

When I left you last, we had a little paper skull pattern, but it was blank. Now, I've drawn a more detailed pattern on it.

And these are the candidates for my stitching. Machine or hand? Time will tell!

Meanwhile, the background has had some paper flowers added to it (all petals made up of individually cut little pits of paper)...

And now, they've had their first layer of stitching.

See you on Wednesday with more!

So, this week's link post is a bit of a mash-up. :)

During my time away, if I came across something that I thought you might like, I dropped it into a draft post (i.e., this  post) and left it. So some of these links are "stale dated" and you've more than likely seen them.

And then I stopped dropping them because I stopped reading online due to my schedule. And then a couple of weeks later, I thought "but then I'll have nothing for my links post". lol  Anyway - here's some links. LOL

The gorilla above is from photos.com  Photos.com are Getty images that you can a: buy on a variety of substrates in a variety of sizes, and b: download and use for personal, non-commercial use. How cool is that? There are THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of images, perfect for inspiration for artists!

Over at Inspiration Green, Cayce Savaglia has incredible thread painting works, HERE

This is an art video - with an unusual subject. I really think you should check it out. ;)  HERE

Over at Textile Artist they`re doing an interview with Adinka Tellegen, who does the most wonderfully realistic textile art paintings. Extremely inspirational for me, particularly - but I hope you`ll enjoy her work too, HERE

At Textile Artist again, they're doing an interview with one of my favourite textile artists, Petra Van der Steen who, with her husband, make stunning art. Check that out, HERE

Here's a overview of Aurafil threads and how to read the labels HERE

An article in The Independent (a UK newspaper) about 'The Gentle Art of Quilting' (lol) HERE

Over at the Surface Design Blog, they talked about an awesome initiative by CARPA (Craft Advanced Research Projects Agency) formed in response to DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (which is so. very.cool. Anyway, here's a post about some of the things they made.  They're AWESOME.  HERE

Amazing wood sculptures HERE:

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (better known as MoMA) offers short video "courses" on various artists and movements, and also close up slides of the works  HERE

The Smithsonian Magazine's 11th Annual Photo Contest finalists are posted HERE and in a fun twist, you can (still) vote for who you think should win.

And you've probably ALL seen Ron Issac's work because I have seen this original post cross-posted, like, EVERYWHERE from Facebook to blogs to online magazines to Tumblr, etc. But if, by some chance, you haven't seen the post, This Colossal did a post about his work HERE (and they really are worth seeing).

Easter Egg decorating! Okay, it's really late, but these are still worth looking at - artist Piotr Bockenheim carves goose  eggs (no really!) with beautiful results, HERE

And last but not least, SAQA's 25th Anniversary Trunk Show Exhibit is online HERE

Phew!  Have a great weekend!

See you Monday. :)

... there was paper.

I decided that one of  the small projects I'd like to make this year is something in the 6 x 6 size. And I thought I'd show it to you from beginning to end.

Happy spring! (FINALLY.)

I've been a busy beaver the last month! Unfortunately, most of  it, I can't show you, so let's pretend it never happened and get back to our regularly scheduled program, yes?

However, as I was saying above, Spring finally arrived here in Southern Ontario, and as I have done last fall and the previous winter, I thought I'd share our walk with our sweet boy (that would be Tyler the Wonder Dog), yesterday.

The lake was an incredible colour.  More...

No pretty pictures this time, it's all talky talky this week.  Good stuff just the same, though.:)

Hyperallergic addresses the question of "What Makes An Artist, An Artist" the answer may surprise you, HERE

Over at Lightstalking (a photography blog) there was an article about the classic rules of composition, which even fiber artists may find helpful. ;)  HERE

My friend, arlee barr linked to a great article about mounting tapestries which could just as easily be an article about how to mount and hang fiber art HERE

I also (somehow) stumbled across a letter from Sol LeWitt to Eva Hesse. You may ask why I'm linking to it - the post is from 5 years ago and the letter to Eva Hesse (among other things, a pioneering fiber artist) written 50 years ago - but I'm linking to it because it's like a manifesto for artists - set everything aside including your own brain stuff and DO!  Caution contains language  - if you're going to get a case of the vapours over the f or c-word, don't click, HERE

Well known black political artist Kara Walker has a show in Portland. Read about it HERE

By the way, I keep meaning to say this - but if you have something you think should be linked, let me know at my handy-dandy contact form below. :)
