So you may remember that I was working on this piece a couple of weeks ago. First, I hand-painted my fabrics (a post on how to achieve this result is coming soon), but I was struggling with the leaf issue - I wanted it to look leaf-blown, but couldn't decide which leaf worked best...
I made a couple of different styles in a couple of different fabrics...
But finally decided that the "November-ness" of "November" was best expressed by no leaves at all.
Just a cold, Northern wind...
Oh, and the winner of two charm packs of Tula Pink's Neptune is:
Hiyacinth, who said "Terrific Tula Pink designs. They're so intriguing! " Congratulations Hiyacinth, email me your address and I'll send them along to you.
I'll be doing another giveaway very soon, so stay tuned...
Oh good, I actually liked it better without the leaves. Did you consider adding beads? You can still preserve that stark, wintry look, especially since it's a big enough piece that the beading could be quite sparse.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so much like November that I shiver over here in front of my computer ;-)) Great piece! And I love how the darker grey spots in your wonderful background piece look a bit like leaves flying around in the November wind. Will be very interesting to learn how you achieved your background !!
ReplyDeleteGreat piece and work!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love the quilted wind blowing through the trees. I liked the leaves, but I definitely get more of an emotional response to the naked trees. Great instincts!
ReplyDeleteI think it's very effective without the leaves! In Virginia I'd call this piece January. lol!
ReplyDeleteSuch an exciting and inspiring piece - you have really caught that november feel with the colours and the movement of the quilting. LOVE the hand dyeing, all the elements work so well together. Looking forward to your dyeing how-to post ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Hiyacinth! I like it better with no leaves as well, I think it conveys that stark winter feeling better. But not November down here in NZ! That's when we start thinking about swimming!
ReplyDeletemmmmm hauntingly beautiful.
