Today is a Monday long weekend here - known as "Simcoe Day".
Today we celebrate (or give thanks!) for Lord John Simcoe.
He was a pretty cool dude, with an interesting military, political and judicial career. He introduced trial by jury, the basis of modern courts and established the City of York - later known as the City of Toronto.
The coolest thing he ever did though? He abolished slavery in Upper Canada. Thanks Lord Simcoe! It's celebrate *you* day!
Enjoy your Monday, I'll see you on Wednesday!

These are two works that were made for a show last year about this time, that are going to be exhibited at the end of the month at a new show in Chicago (deets to follow). I am updating this one by adding more current information as sadly, legislation against womens' bodies continues:
"America Now: Written On The Body" (c) 2012 Kit Lang
And improving this one:
"Incendiary: Marie-Joseph Angelique" (c) 2012 Kit Lang
(I think she needs more fire, don't you?)
In addition, I just found out tonight that this piece on Trayvon Martin:
"America Now - Walking While Black " (c) 2012 Kit Lang
Will be exhibited in a new show, also at the end of the month, again, deets to follow..
And that's in addition to the show at 10 Carden that I have been working towards for the last couple of months where I will be showing a lot of my old work, along with four new pieces for a group show with Group of Eight.
Also, also:
"Hiraeth" (c) 2013 Kit Lang
is currently hanging at International Quilt Festiveal, Long Beach.
Apparently, it's show time!
I began this piece at the beginning of July, when my heart and emotions were a swirling maelstrom – brought on by the onslaught of damaging, derogatory messages to women that kept coming and coming and coming.
